JUMPED ON SPOKES OF BOY’S BICYCLE.
MAN ORDERED TO PAY FOR DAMAGE.
Ronald James Bates came before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of drunkenness and on a further charge of wilfully damaging a bicycle, the property of Jack Stewart Callaway.
He pleaded guilty to both charges. The Senior-Sergeant stated that Bates, who was drunk, was riding a up Madras Street when a boy who was riding behind him called out to be given room to pass. When the lad had got in front of Bates, Bates chased him. The boy turned into Edgeware Road, and then back down Bishop Street, and finally took refuge by going into a house, leaving his bicycle outside. Bates came up and threw the cycle on the ground and jumped on the spokes of the front wheel, breaking them. The damage amounted to ten shillings. On the first charge Bates was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, and on the second he was convicted and ordered to pay the amount of the damage.
