WHERE THE SHADOWS LIVE.
'Twas a question far too deep For the bairns of Grassland Home; “Shadows steal when day is done; Do they die when sunbeams come?" Ted die said they flew away Over where the land meets sea; Jennie shook her sunny curls: “No! They’d drown!" That could not be. But with spring came Cousin Sue; In the cupboard 'neath the stair. Deep she delved with earnest eyes! 1 “Jennie! Ted! The shades live there!" Now when evening draws a-near, On the stairs the children wait For the shadow-band to pass. But they always seem too late! j Bessie Heighton, Christchurch.
