lessening the present anxiety, caused by the serious drop in wool prices. It is not suggested that wool should completely ou6t the dainty, gay materials which are so dear to the feminine heart, but rather it should be allowed to hold its own, in what might be termed its own sphere. If mothers, when shopping, would give preference to woollen goods, wherever possible, the difference this increased output would make would be enormous. No material has yet been made which can compare with nun’s veiling, and the finer flannels for children’s sleeping suits, and if the initial outlay is slightly higher, the ultimate cost is less, when the extra months of wear are taken into consideration, and yet thousands of children sleep nightly in cottons of various makes.

Thin woollen dress materials are as charming as they are comfortable. They hang gracefully, and do not share with artificial silk, its tiresome trick of crushing, neither do they present so many difficulties to the dressmaker in the matter of fraying edges. Tweed coats and costumes, woollen cardigans and jumpers are necessary items in every lady’s wardrobe, and the purchase of these garments is a step in the right direction, from a personal as well as a patriotic standpoint.
