G.R.B. AND SPIRITUALISM.
To the Editor. Dear Sir. —Out of the fullness of his ignorance, G.R.B. writes on the topic of Spiritualism. It is passing strange that a subject which is occupying the
scientific mind to-day. and has been undergoing rigid tests in its various phases / ring the last thirty years, should be .so completely settled and solved by this great master-mind with> an examination of the facts. Had G R.B. been born some forty years er.rlier, when the telephone first came into use. he would have seen some of his fellow sceptics saying “ Bunkum! ” ‘ Bosh!” when they heard a voice, from the other end of the wire. Is it not strange that the really great are very humble, although G.R.B. thinks otherwise. A course of reading, not one volume, but many, and a humble, reverent personal investigation to follow the reading, will enlarge your contributor’s vision and show him “ there are more hings in heaven ami earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Now, then, G.R.8., “read, mark and inwardly digest ” the following books: —“ Experiments in Psychical Science.” by W. J. Crawford. D.Sc., dealing with levitation, contact and the direct voice; “ Psychic Structures of the Goligher Circle,” by the same author ; “ Researches in the Phenomena of Spiritualism,” by Sir William Crookes, F.R.S., etc.; “Ghosts in Solid Form,” by Gambier Bolton, F.R.S.; Schrenk Notzing’s voluminous work on “ Materialisations” (45s cost), with its numerous photographs and convincing experiments; Alfred Rusfc’l Wallace’s “ Miracles in the Light of Modern Science,” which cover? the field well, but may be out of print; Dr John King’s “Dawn of the Awakened Mind ” (a copy of which is in the Library) ; Professor Henslow’s “ Proofs of the Truths of Spiritualism,” also obtainable there; and ‘ Man’s Survival after Death,” by the Rev Charles L. Tweedale, F.R.A.S., also comprehensive. In Judge Manning's “ Old New Zealand,” the reader is given a good insight into psychic phenomena as practised by the Maoris. Psychic incidents re t--« be found in many of the bioraph.e* of eminent people on the ,’i ic Library helves. Finally I wi.u. . recommend everyone interested in the subject to read Ihe Undiscovered Country,” edited by Harold Bayley. and published by Cassells.—l am, etc., PSYCHO.
