FUTURE LAY-OUT OF THE SQUARE.
MR GOULD WILL NOT COMMENT ON POSITION.
Mr George Gould, chairman of the Save the Square Committee, who returned last week from a trip to the Old Country, indicated this morning that he has no desire at the present stage to enter into any controversy regarding the proposals for a new lay-out of Cathedral Square. “ I may be .doing a little private work in connection with the matter, but nothing public just yet,” he said when asked if he had any comment to make on the reports submitted to the meetings of the City Council and the Tramway Board yesterday. Replying to a further question whether the Save the Square Committee was likely to be called together this week to consider the matter, Mr Gould intimated that no meeting of the committee would be held immediately. On his return to Christchurch last Wednesday Mr Gould said that until he had had an opportunity of sizing up the position and reviewing the discussion that had taken place during his absence, he did rtot intend to say anything for publication concerning the Cathedral Square question.
