DIRT-TRACK RIDERS WILL COMPETE FOR THE GOLD HELMET.

The success which attended the inaugural meeting at English Park Speedway warrants the promotors, Christchurch Speedways, Ltd., holding a meeting on Saturday night next. On this occasion the Speedwell Gold Helmet, :

very beautiful trophy, will be competed for. Last season this trophy was won by Gus Clifton, the Australian. This year it will not be competed for by visiting riders, so a New Zealand man must win it. In addition, A. Mann, the Australian crack, will have to look to his laurels, as local men will be given another opportunity of beating him. The races next Saturday night will again be split into heats, which will provide a lengthy, interesting and thrilling programme. Derry’s Band will be in attendance a quarter of an hour be-, fore starting time.
