Mention of secondary school pupils as future city councillors was made at the meeting of the City Council last night, when some thirty boys from the Boys’ High School and girls from the Avonside Girls’ High School waited expectantly for the business of the council to begin. The Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) said that there were present representatives from secondary schools. The Mayor wished to welcome these young people to the council meeting, which, he hoped, th.ev would find to some extent educational. He hoped that some day some of the boys and girls would be city councillors. Councillor H. T. J. Thacker: “ How abo-t some of them being Mayor some day?” The girls listened to the business from 7.30 p.m. until after 8.30 p.m., when they left in a body. The boys remained to take an interest in the question of removal of the Sydenham Park fence.
