TRAM STEPS WILL BE MADE LOWER.

As an experiment, the Tramway Board yesterday authorised the lowering of the steps of one of the highieck tram cars. 0 The Worxs and Traffic Committee reported in connection with car improvements that it was proceeding with the closing-in of semi-open American combination cart and was also acting similarly respecting what are called the “Boon” cars. The committee had been concerned about the high steps of some of these cars and the platform of one of them, was being lowered in order that the result might be seen and the cost ascertained.

The committee proposed to continue the policy of painting the ceilings _of cars in white, thus improving the illumination and the same policy was being carried out with respect to the dashes. A dash painted white showed up very much better at night than the present dark cars did, the .white reflecting the rays of motor-car headlights. Mrs E. R. M’Combs said that she hoped that publicity would be given to the fact that the board was interested in the question and was willing to take action. The report was adopted.
