NATIONALISATION OF TRUNK ROADS IS RECOMMENDED.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE URGE BETTER STATE OF TRADE RELATIONS. Per Frees Association. AUCKLAND. October 15. That the present system of constructing and maintaining main highways is unsatisfactory, and that all arterial trunk roads should be nationalised and controlled by the Main Highways Board, is the opinion of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, which to-day passed a remit to that effect. “ There should exist a more reasonable spirit in regard to tariffs between Australia and New Zealand than there is to-day. It is not now the spirit of Anzac,” said Mr M. Stewart, in presenting the Auckland remit, whieh was carried, suggesting that the conference should deplore the increasing asperity in trade relations between Australia and Ndw Zealand, and urge the desirability of opening up negotiations for a new reciprocal tariff on a substantially lower level.
