SUMNER BOROUGH COUNCIL HAS MEETING.

A meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson), Councillors A. Holden, E. F. Sandford, D. F. Oldridge, J. E. Tait, C. I. Denham and F. C. Cooper. An apology for absence was received from Councillor F. H. R. Neville. The borough engineer reported that rubble had been quarried on Victoria Terrace, Clifton, of which 130 yards had been crushed and would be carted to the Clifton streets.

Unemployment relief works as specified in the application to the Public Works Department had been carried out at Te Rae Kura Park, Monck’s Spur, widening and the Beautifying Association's work on the Esplanade. Regarding the proposed band room site, a section at the intersection of Wakefield Avenue and Arnold Street appeared to be the most suitable place Councillor J. E. Tait objected to the recording of the minutes of a special meeting concerning the swimming pool. The minute referred to Councillor Tait’s “expression of appreciation of the Mayor's presentation of the case to the Local Bills Committee at Wellington.” Councillor Tait said that his actual words were that he thought the Mayor had made the best of a difficult case. The minutes were confirmed, but Councillor Tait asked that his objection be recorded.

A Redcliffs resident wrote complaining of the noise created by outboard motor boats, and stating that the noise was proving upsetting to a number of Redcliffs residents.

Councillor Tait referred to the possibility of assisting the re-formation of the natural swimming pool. He said that if it w -r considered feasible a scoop should be put through the sand bank at present surrounding the pool and possibly the current would produce a pool similar to that formed last year The reinstatement of the pool would be of great benefit to Sumner and would not entail much expense. The Mayor stated that from a public health point of View the engineer had been instructed to scoop a channel through the sandbank if the fresh water failed to reach the pool at high tide. It was decided to see what could be done in the matter.
