PORT NEWS.

TENNIS SEASON OPENS. The opening of the Diamond Harbour Tennis Club’s season on Saturday afternoon attracted a large number of residents and visitors. In the absence of the president. Dr Thomas, Mr H. M. Taylor, vice-president, performed the opening ceremony. He said that the tennis court was a great asset to a settlement like Diamond Harbour. The increased membership warranted the construction of additional courts, and he was pleased that the in hand another court. He wished the club a successful season. Mr r. E. button also congratulated the club on the progress it had made. Friendly games were played and afternoon tea, was provided. Among those present were Mr and Mrs T. T. Armstrong. Lynskey. CONFIRMATION SERVICE. There was a large congregation at St Joseph’s Catholic Church yesterday afternoon, when a confirmation service was conducted by Bishop Brodie. In his sermon his Lordship dealt with the present-day dangers to which young , people were exposed. He pointed out the need for the spiritual help that was given in confirmation to avoid many of the dangers of the present age. Bishop Brodie congratulated and thanked the sisters and the parish priest for their help in teaching the children, and he referred to the able , manner in which the children had answered the Catechism. The altar was' , prettily decorated with flowers.
