(CONTINUED.) AUSTRALIAN RACING. AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB. XTOHTMARCH WINS KANDWICK PLATE. (United Press Assn.—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, October 13. The Australian Jockey Club was favoured with fine weather and a large attendance for the concluding day of the spring carnival at Randwick on Saturday. The track was slow, due to the recent wet weather. The New Zealand horse Green Linnet received pronounced support from its connections in the Canonbury Stakes, l»ut ran poorly and finished at the rear of the field. First Acre made a splendid bid for victory in the Waverley Handicap, but weakened in its final strides, losing the race by half a head. The steeplechaser Home Made appeared to be a possibility, but he hit several lances in the latter stages of the race, causing him to weaken at the finish. Nightmarch established himself as a great horse by brilliantly capturing the Itandwick Plate. After running last for most of the journey, he came up in the final strides, and smothered the opposition, gaining the verdict by two lengths. Passing the mile Crucis ran to the front from Sir Ribble, Winalot, Bacchus and Nightmarch. At the half-mile, the field was closely bunched, with Crucis leading and Nightmarch last. At the distance Crucis, Winalot and Kidaides were on even terms with Nightmarch finishing smartly. In a sharp tussle between Kidaides and Nightmarch, the latter prevailed by two lengths. VICTORIA AMATEUR TURF CLUB. CUnfted Press Assn.—Ey Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, October 13. The weather was delightfully fine, and there was a large attendance, at the meeting of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club. Racksa was scratched on the course for the Caulfield Guineas. Silent Quest did a sterling performance in the welter. She was second to last at five furlongs, but finished brilliantly. The owner is Mr John Wren, who won a division of this event with Spear King a few seasons back. Kaftan was prominent throughout and won the Debutante Stakes narrowly. Green Wave, who finished fast, looked a good thing, but was beaten by Kaftan, who was bred by its owner, Mr Clive Leonard, a member of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club committee. The rider Dempsey had won the race previously on Hefton. High Syce was running third early in the race, but won the Caulfield Stakes comfortably. This is trainer Holt’s sixth success in the race. Duncan won the race previously on Royal Charter. Nightlark led all the way in the steeplechase and had a lead of twenty lengths at the half mile. He tired, however, and was all out at the finish. Pcntheus was prominent throughout and won the Caulfield Guineas comfortably. He is engaged in the Derby, and the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. His time was equal to the record for the race. He arrived here frorn Sydney on Thursday. Highland had his fourth successive victory in the Toorak Handicap. He has now won over £12.000 in stakes. His trainer is Holt and his jockey is W. Duncan. The sire was David. New Zealand-bred horses, yesterday, also filled the first three places in the Waverley Handicap. That well-known performer.
