DEATH ANNOUNCED OF THE EARL OF MEATH.
(United Press Assn.—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received October 12, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 11. The death is announced of the Earl of Meath.—Australian Press Association. The Earl of Meath, who was aged eighty-eight, was famous as the founder of that movement for thinking imperially, which resulted in May 24, the birthday of Queen Victoria, being kept as Empire Day. The suggestion that this day should be devoted to this purpose he first made to Mr Joseph Chamberland when the latter was Colonial Secretary in 1902. Lord Meath was also closely iejentified with many religious and social movements including the Boy Scouts and the Church Army.—British Official Wireless.
