YOUNG MAN RECEIVES SERIOUS LEG INJURY.
Colliding head-on with a three-ton motor-truck near Templeton yesterday afternoon, a motor-cyclist named J. F. Melvin suffered a severe fracture of the right leg. He was suffering also from shock when admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where he underwent an operation last night, Melvin’s condition this morning had improved a little, but he was still on the seriously ill list.
Melvin is twenty-two years of age, and is a farm worker. Recently he has been boarding at an Ashburton hotel. He was riding a motor-cycle south along the Main South Road, on the other side of Templeton at the time of colliding with the truck, which was being driven by a man named Brough, for British Pavements, Ltd. The motorcycle was badly damaged.
The accident, which occurred at 3.45 p.m., happened opposite to where Mr F. J. Rolleston, of Timaru, ex-Minister of Justice, was mending a tyre of his car oil the side of the roadway.
