Ship Reported Total Loss In Pacific; Awarua Radio May Have Heard S.O.S.
(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received October 12, 9.10 a.m.) A_ SYDNEY, October 12. RADIO MESSAGE has been received that the Bretagne, bound for Samoa from San Francisco, was a total loss. It is assumed that the crew are safe. It is thought the mysterious S.O.S. received by Bluff Radio Station was from the ill-fated vessel. There is some doubt about the ship's identity. She may be a Danish motor-ship of 3177 tons or an auxiliary schooner of 1028 tons, both of the same name.—Australian Press Association. .
The secretary of the General Post Office, Wellington, on Thursday night received the following information from the Superintendent of Radio, Awaru^: —“ At 7.50 p.m. station on strength 4, sent ‘ 5.0.5., C.Q.’ once. Nothing heard since. Ail stations released at 9 p.m. with instructions to keep sharp look-out”
