KINGSEFORD-SMITH IS IN NEED OF BACKING. <Unite<l Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received October 11, 3 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 10. A message from Santa Maria, California, states that Squadron-Leader Kingsford-Smith conferred with Captain Hancock, who backed the Southern Cross in its Australian flight. Later the flyer announced that the Southern Cross would come to America from Europe as soon as backing was secured to make a trans-Atlantic and trans-continental flight. He stated that his companions would be Messrs Litchfield and M’Williams and FlightLieutenant Ulm.—Australian Press Association.
