WAIKATO TROTS.

LINDBERGH ENGAGED IN MARK MEMORIAL.

(By

“OBSERVER.”

The Waikato Trotting Club holds its meeting at Claudelands to-morrow, and there is certain to be a big day at this popular meeting. The fields promise to be good without being unwieldy, and good racing should be witnessed by those present. C. S. Donald. with Lindbergh and Pearl Logan, is the only Canterbury representative. Introductory Trot. The business of the day commences with a 4.10 class mile and five furlongs for the trotters. The scratch lot have no public form to recommend them, but Motumaoho is whispered as having a decent turn of speed and a possibility for some of the cash. The speedy but unreliable Paradigm is on 24yds, and if the Childe Audubon gelding does his work correctly he should be hard to beat. Te Ngutu on 48vds and Sweet Memory on 72yds ran reasonably well at the Auckland Relief Meeting, and appear to have prospects of lifting a portion of the stake. The recently imported mare, Linnet the Great, is ls6yds behind, but so far there is no information suggesting that she has reached her] best form. The field is far from classy, and Paradigm, Te Ngutu and Sweet Memory appear the most likely. Nel de Beau Engaged. The Frankton Handicap, a 3.56 mile and five furlongs, has a special interest for southern followers, as Nel de Beau, a promising mare formerly trained here, is booked to compete. She has disappointed her supporters lately, should make a bold bid from the end of this handicap. My Thorpe and First Flight are a pair on scratch that may show improvement. Peter Lloyd is a promising young horse on 24yds, -and the Peterwah five-year-old and Zealous should show up from this mark. Te Wahia, J. Kennerley's representative, is a goad sort and likely to get up even from 48yds behind. Limosa looks a cut above the rest, but should have no chance from 72yds behind if any of the front lot show much improvement. Nel de Beau, Te Wahia and Peter Lloyd should race well. Mark MemoriaL The principal event of the day, a 4.38 class two miles, has attracted nice field of eleven, and those engaged should provide a good race. Mountain Dell, an impressive winner at the recent benefit meeting at Auckland, appears the best of the limit lot. Great Peter is engaged, but his backers i-.ust have tired of him on his recent form, especially over two-mile journeys. Cornelian is a useful mare on 12yds, but Warplane (24) has more impressive performances during the past twelve months. Canterbury hopes . ill centre on C. S. Donald’s representative, Lindbergh, and considering .his fellow’s great go at Addington, when be registered 4.28 4-5 after having all the worst of the running, he loks to have a real chance to-morrow from the 36yds mark. Carmel, on 60yds. will be bracketed with Warplane, IvDth being in J. Shaw’s- stable. The former was the star performer at the Auck land benefit meeting and should <-gain be well in the picture, so the bracket should carry lots of money. Dillon Huon, a useful sort, is the backma.ker —96yds behind. His task looks very hard. Lindbergh seems to have a great chance of lifting the major portion of the £450 stake, but he will have to step on it to head off Carmel and Mountain Dell.

Akenehi’s Chance. The chief event for trotters, is the Hamilton Handicap, of two miles, class 4.48. Kolmar looks as likely as any -on the front mark, but the favourite .should be Akenehi, on 24yds. The Peter Moko mare has a lot of speed. Etta Cole, on 48yds, is another improving trotters and she should be in better company before this season closes. Floraline showed improved form towards the close of last season, and Gold Sovereign (72yds) and Peter M’Kinney ran good races at Auckland on August 31, but these seem too far back in the handicap. On her best behaviour Akenehi should win, but Etta Cole will make it hard for her. Peter M’Kinney is at present in good form, too, but it looks as though the pair mentioned should finish ahead of him. Ciaudelands Handicap. The Ciaudelands Handicap (4/ffe class, two miles) has a handy field of ten to battle for the stake. The scratch lot do not appeal, but on 12yds is a solid and consistent mare in Polly’s Picture. Enawah, also on 12yds, demonstrated at Auckland that she has recovered from her trouble and is back to form. Our Nancy (12yds) and Arachne (24vds) appeal more as sprinters, but both are decidedly of the useful type and might run out two miles when tuned up. Limosa, on 48yds, is a good stayer, and Explosion, on the same mark, has only to do the best he is capable of to be troublesome. Hal Chimes has a big task from 96yds behind. Limosa, Enawah and Polly’s Picture appear to have the best prospects.

Mile Dash. A field of fifteen remains in the Stewards’ Handicap, of one mile in harC. S. Donald has Pearl Logan engaged and she should run a decent race, but the field she is meeting contains some fast ones. Great Peter, Vendome, Brutus and Cornelian, all on the 24yds mark, can hurry up over a mile. Joybird (48yds) and Tony Victor (60yds) are useful sprinters,' but the handicap looks be}'ond them. The final issue should be fought out by Vendome and Great Peter. Brutus is well treated and may run in the leading division.

Unhoppled Event. The President’s Handicap, a 4.50 class two miles, gives the trotter a chance to compete against the pacer on level terms, as it is run without hopples. Unfortunately, few of the pacers have accepted the opportunity extended, and Bell Dial, on the 36yds mark, looks the best of these. Peterson, on scratch, should go a decent race, and if Akenehi (43yds) and Etta Cole (72yds) are again produced they should make matters interesting.

Ten Furlongs Snrint. The day’s sport is concluded with the 2.57 h class Visitors’ Handicap. Nel de Beau is again engaged and on the limit. If she is produced she will have supporters, but there will be a rush to be on Great Parrish, who is also on the limit. Te Wahia is again an acceptor and should be hard from the 12yds mark. Rolfe Audubon, on 24yds, is fast, and Arachne and Dawdler. on the same mark, should be suit-

ed by the distance. Our Nancy is a useful mare on 36yds. and Pearl Logan is again engaged and also on this mark. The running of the earlier events may give punters a lead for this, but Great Parrish looks the most likely. Rolfe Audubon and Arachne should also go fast over the ten furlongs.
