SEDDONVILLE REFUGEES NOT COMING TO-DAY.

FAILED TO CONNECT WITH THE EXPRESS. The refugees from Seddonville who are coming to Christchurch will not be arriving by the express from the West Coast to-day. The Mayor received a telephone message from the Mayor of Greymouth this morning to the effect that the refugees failed to connect with the express for Christchurch, and in consequence would not be able to come to the city until Tuesday. TROTTING MEETING LIKELY TO BE HELD. MINISTER RECEIVES REQUEST FAVOURABLY. There is now every likelihood that a special trotting meeting will be held in Christchurch for the purpose of raising money’ for the West Coast Earthquake Relief Fund. Mr IT. J. Otley, an official of the Canterbury’ Park Trotting Club, returned this morning from Wellington, where he discussed the project with the Hon P. A. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr Otley stated to-day’ that the Minister received the request very favourably and there appeared every prospect of a permit for the meeting being granted. The Canterbury Park Club proposed to make its course available for the meeting, and the three trotting clubs in Christchurch were cooperating in arranging the meeting. The whole of proceeds would be given to the fund, said Mr Otley, and he anticipated that not less than £SOO would be raised in this way. MONEY COMING IN WELL FOR RELIEF FUND.
