Air Arnold Bennett, writing in the "Evening Standard," makes an appreciative review of "A House is Built" a novel by M. Bernard Eldershaw, which is really the work of two Sydney University graduates. Misses Eldershaw and Bernard, and which has won the £2OOO competition for the best no\’el by an Australian author. Mr Bennett says. “A very notable novel. Its quality is epical and deeply impressed me. I shall be surprised if more is not heard of the authors.”— Australian Press Association—United Service. Outside the Vatican. ROME, July 4. The Pope’s first public appearance outside the Vatican has been fixed for July 27, the feast of Saint James. The Pope will take part in a Eucharistic procession in the Piazza di San Pietro, carried on a dais by papal valets, with the sacred monstrance on a platform in front of the dais. Four thousand Seminarists from all parts of the world, the heads of religious orders, and bishops will be included in the procession. Stands are being erected in the Square for the Cabinet and other officials.—Australian Press Association— United Service. Robbery Under Arms. ADELAIDE, July 4. As a result of the hold-up of the North Adelaide branch of the Savings Bank on Wednesday, when the manager and his assistant were locked in a vault, while the armed robber took £6OO, the police have made an arrest Iwo motorists, a man and a woman, were arrested at the up-country town of Swanreach. Their names were John Walker, aged 27, and Lorraine Delanty, aged 22. Walker has been charged with robbery under arms.—Australian Press Association. Welsh Coal. LONDON, July 4. Negotiations, now approaching completion, are expected to result in the trustification of the whole of the Welsh coal industry. One of the chief agencies whereby the woolgrowers of Australia intend to boost wool is by co-operative advertising, along the line of the Californian fruitgrowers.—Australian Press Association.
