POULTRY SHOW.

NORTH CANTERBURY. The conditions under which the North c-anterbury Poultry, Pigeon and Canary L 'uli s thirty-first annual show opened at Kangiora, to-day in the drill hail insured its success. Pine weather prevailed and the support accorded by exhibitors eclipsed that of any previous Last year the exhibits totalled f-80; this year 1174 were staged. In the poultry and pigeon classes, comprising the main sections of the show, there was a notable increase of 97 exhibits. The display of birds in all the principal classes was highly meritorious, many of the prize-winners at previous shows this season in Canterbury being in competition. The utility classes were strongly represented, Plymouth Rocks, Wyandottes, Orpingtons. Minorcas and Leghorns being equally conspicuous for numbers. The pigeons made an interesting show, there being much better competition than last year, especially in the Homer classes. There was also a good display of canaries, most of the best-known fanciers being Represented. Grain and roots, garden and orchard produce, cookery and fancy work, occupied a considerable amount of space, a-mi there was also a commendable exhibition of amateur photography. The Rangiora High School was again to the fore with a remarkably fine display of the products of the school experimental farm. To-morrow the attractions of the show will be enhanced by the addition of the cats and rabbits section. The rabbits, which will consist of Chinchillas and Angoras of the finest breed, are largely from the stock of the Rangiora firm of Rabbits. Unlimited. A good deal of the success of the show is* due to the capable way In which the club officials carry out their duties, the secretary, Mr A. E. Hawkins, being specially worthy of* commendation.
