NEW ZEALAND NAVAL SQUADRON PAYS VISIT TO AUSTRALIAN PORT.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 4. The following has been received from a member of the New Zealand squadron, dated Brisbane, June 21: After leaving New Zealand, li.M.S. Dunedin and 11.M.5. Diomede, both representing battle cruisers, took part in manoeuvres with the Australian forces, and, contrary to reports which have appeared in the Australian papers, were successful in breaking through the defending forces. “Jn a regatta at Hervey Bay, Diomede won the gigs race, also the stokers’ whalers race, and Dunedin and Diomede were equal first in the ordinary seamen’s whalers race, in addition to gaining places in other races. “On June 19, the New Zealand cruisers carried out long-range torpedo firing at the Australian squadron, and later the same day arrived at Brisbane. A civic reception was given to the cruisers on June 21, and the ships were open to visitors on the following Saturday, a special invitation being given to school children. On Monday, June 24, at the special request of the city, the ships’ companies were to land and march through Brisbane, the salute being taken by the Governor.
