N.Z. MISSIONARY ON AMBRYN ISLAND REPORTS “ALL SAFE.”
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, July 4. A radiogram was received yesterday by the secretary of the Presbyterian Foreign Missions, the Rev W. Mawson, recording the eruption of the volcanic island Ambryn and the destruction of the mission station at Craig Cove, which is near the western end of the island. In regard to a reference in the cablegram to a missioner named Taylor. Mr Mawson said that the only missionary on the island was Mr C. R. Stringeof Oamaru, who was sent there last year. The radiogram was despatched on Monday from the inter-island steamer Malinoa. Mr Stringer reported ‘All safe.”
