LICENSEE’S EVIDENCE IS NOT BELIEVED.

Per Press Association. THAMES, June 29. R. A. Allwood, licensee of the Shortland Hotel, was recently charged with allowing drunkenness on his premises, decision being reserved. The Magistrate, in giving judgment, said that the Court could not believe the story told by the licensee in the witness box, and accepted the constable’s evidence. He would be convicted and fined £6 and costs. There was a strong inference that the licensee was supplying a man with liquor while the man was drunk, but the evidence was insuffeient to justify a conviction on that charge.
