THREE STEAMERS IN WESTPORT CAN SEND WIRELESS MESSAGES.

Although Westport is isolated telegraphically, means of sending out messages exist through the presence in the port of ships equipped with wireless. The Kawatiri arrived at Westport on Saturday, and the Kaitoke was due yesterday from Melbourne. The Kartigi is due in the port to-day from Wellington. News of an urgent character could thus be transmitted to the outside world through the agency of these vessels, provided they are in reach of the town, and not standing off in the road stead. It is thought that they might possibly adopt this course as a precaution against a big flood in the river.
