LOCAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF RUGBY UNION HAS MEETING.
The Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union met last evening, when the president (Mr W. F. Watters) was in the chair. The High School Club advised that it would enter two third grade and two fourth grade teams in the seven-a-side competition, provided it was held prior to the vacations. The Eastern Districts Sub-Union wrote advising that it was agreeable to the representative match with the Ashburton touring representative team at Gore on September 4. The Southland Union wrote inquiring what date the Ashburton Union proposed playing its representative fixture at Invercargill. As it proposed running an art union itself, the North Auckland Union wrote stating that it regretted It could not assist the Ashburton Union in the disposal of tickets for its art union. The New Zealand Union wrote asking for a list of the representative fixtures arranged by the union, and also asking that the names be forwarded of five referees, capable of and available for controlling inter-provincial matches. Information was also required on the expenditure incurred by the union in assisting schools. A letter was received from the Banks Peninsula Sub-Union advising that it was not able at present to ax-range for a representative fixture with the Ashburton team, as it had several fixtures in view, and also as the competitions were unfinished. It was decided that in the event of a match with the touring British team being allotted to Ashburton the New New Zealand Rugby Union be advised that the Ashburton Union desired 25 per cent of the net receipts. It was decided that a knock-out competition be held immediately after the conclusion of the second round, to be followed by the seven-a-side competition, all matches to be played at the Showgrounds. The secretary was instructed to write to the Malvern and Ellesmere SubUnions with a view to arx*anglng matches at Ashburton on August 19 and August 24 respectively. On the motion of Mr J. C. M’Lachlan it was decided that the Waimate SubUnion be written to asking if a match could be arranged between the Waimate and Ashburton B teams at Ashburton either on August 31 or September 7. In connection with the third grade competition it was decided that the third round be played. The selector of the senior representative team. Mr J. C. M’Lachlan, submitted the names of the following players to attend special training in view of the proposed southern tour: Hinds Club, F- Hood, B. Brown, C. Elms, Hawke (2); Methven Club, H. Lamb, G. Dalton, S. Grogan, A. M’Cormick; Rakaia Club, H. A. Smith, J. Carr, Dunstan, Waterhouse, 'M’Lauchlan; Allenton Club, S. Pennall, Garforth, Fox, K. M’Cormick; Hampstead Club, D. Tainui, G. Day, F. Kennedy, R. Tait, .T. Mulhern, A. O. Whiting, D. Moody, Burgess; Old Boys Club, B. Jordan, E. Clark, J. Todd, O. Freidlander, K. Nicoll, F. Davis, W. Rapley, J. Farr, C. Corson, B. Lane. The following draw and referees for Saturday were approved:— Seniors—Allenton v. Rakaia, at Showgrounds (Mr C. Day); Old Boys v. Hampstead, at Showgrounds (Mr A. H. Guiney); Hinds v. Methven, at Hinds (Mr C. Stills). Juniors—Allenton v. Springburn, at Showgrounds (Mr E. Burgess); Methven v. Old Boys, at Methven- (Mr R. Annibal); Lowr.liffe v. Hampstead, at Loweliffe (Mr L. Hadley); Mayfield v. Rakaia, at Showgrounds (Mr E. M’Dougall). The following matches will be played at the Showgrounds:— Third Grade—Allenton v. High School (Mr W. R. Featherston); Rakaia v. Hampstead (Mr C. Topp); Old Boys v. Technical Old Boys (Mr J. M’Lachlan). Fourth Grade—High School B v. Technical A (Mr A. R. Gourley); High School A v. Technical B (Mr C. H. Miller).
