HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, June IT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated June 15, from the High Commissioner, London:—

Tallow.—The spot market continues very quiet, but there is more inquiry for shipments. Only a small demand at auction, and priefes were lower. Present quotations for spot are: Mutton, fine 41s 6d, fair to good 38s to 40s, dark to dull 35s 6d to 365. Beef, sweet and (or) mixed 39s to 435, fair to good 37s to 395, dark to dull 35s to 365. Mixed, fair to good 36s 6d to 38s 6d, dark to dull 35s to 35s 6d. Gut, etc., 34s to 35s 6d per cwt.

Hemp.—The Manila market is quiet. Values at close were unchanged. Stocks in England on May 31 were 8500 bales, agairtst 21,580 last year. The Sisal market is quiet, with very little business doing. Nominal closing values. For June,-August shipments Tanganyika No. 1 is quoted at £3B buyers, £3S 10s sellers. In Mexican there is still nothing offering here and nominal values are unchanged. New Zealand, nothing to report. Market dull. Nominal comparative values for high points £33 10s, fair £3l, common £29 10s, rejected £27 15s; tow, second grade £2l, third grade £l7 10s.

Wool.—At Bradford, the market is quiet. Merino and fine cross-bred tops are more or less neglected, but moderate business has been done in medium and coarse cross-bred. Present quotations for tops are: 64’s warp 3s sd, average 3s 4d, 56’s 2s 61d per lb, 50’s prepared 2s 2d to 2s 3d per lb, 40’s prepared Is lOd per lb. Fruit.—Stocks of New Zealand have been fairly well cleared, but Jonathan, particularly large size, are very troublesome owing to rapid deterioration. The Southampton portion of the s.s. Rangitiki shipment is arriving on the market this morning. So far the Sturmer, Statesman arid Dougherty are in sound condition, and should meet a good demand, probably at opening prices from 15s to 17s 6d. Delicious and Rome Beauty fully ripened and show waste. No pears are here yet and will report fully next week.

TINWALE STOCK SALE. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, June 18. The weekly stock sale at the Tinwald saleyards to-day was well attended and Prices showed little difference compared with the previous sale at Ashburton. Fat ewes, which comprised the bulk of the yai’ding, contained many pens of light sorts. Although a few pens of particularly prime stuff good prices, a few lines were passed, while several were sold subject to vendor’s consent. The best ewes during the morning part of the sale were offered on account of Mr K. Cameron and realised 26s Id for eight, 24s 6d for eight, and 23s 4d for six.
