MINISTERIAL The Hon A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, arrived at Westport from Nelson yesterday afternoon. He inspected the hospital, Old People’s Home, and Maternity Hospital. He was accorded a civic reception in the evening, speeches of welcome being made by the Mayor (Mr J. H. Harkness), Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., and the Hon W. H. M’lntyre, M.L.C. The Minister will visit Denniston to-day, and leave in the afternoon for Reefton. Colonel F. W. Dawson returned from Timaru by the express last evening. Mr J. S. Guthrie left for Wellington last evening. He will return on Saturday. The Right Rev F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, left for the north last night. The resignation of the Rev Tulloch Yuille, of the pastorate of Knox Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, was received formally at the last meeting of the Kirk session. A Sydney cable states that Mr Herbert Brooks. Australia’s new Commis : sioner-General to the United States, is a passenger by the Maunganui from Sydney for Wellington. At last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr F. D. Kesteven, who will take over debentures to enable the work of building a weir in the River Avon to be undertaken without delay.

The resignation of the Town Clerk of Upper Hutt (Mr L. F. Grimstone) was received at the meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council this week. Mr Grimstone is leaving at the end of July to take up a position with a firm in Wellington. The Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville j in his capacity as one of the City’s Sinking Fund Commissioners, left for Wellington last night to attend the meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association to discuss proposals for the extension of the powers of Sinking Fund Commissioners.

Mr W. M. Veitch, engineer attached to the District Engineer’s staff, Christchurch, has been transferred to Nelson His successor, Mr T. E. Thomson, late of Dunedin, has taken up duty in Christchurch Mr Veitch has been engaged in reconstruction work in South Canterbury for about three years. Mr James Thornell, representative cf Wolseley Motors, Ltd., for Australia and New Zealand, was a passenger to New Zealand from Sydney this week. He will meet the general sales manager of the company, Mr A. E. Meaden, who arrives by the Aorangi next week and will tour New Zealand and Australia with him.

Mr Arthur C. Blopwood, a directoi of the Mercantile Bank of Australia, has arrived in New Zealand from Sydney to hold a conference in Auckland with the New Zealand directors. He says that the affairs of the new organisation are going ahead splendidly, but he could not say when the Auckland" office would be opened. The appointment of Canon William Faneourt, of Palmerston North, a.s vicar of St Mary’s Parish, in place of Canon Percival James, who has gone to St Paul’s. Wellington, has been decided upon by the wardens and vestry of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedrai, Parnell and the Diocesan Selection Committee. The Rev F. M. Kempthorne, B A., vicar of the Pohangina parochial district, has accepted appointment as the vic§r of Khandallah and Ngaio (Wellington), in place of the Rev Canon O. M. Mr S. C. Gilfillan (Auckland) is a guest at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr William Taylor (Dunedin) ’is a recent arrival at Warner’s Hotel. The Rev E. B. Chambers has accepted an invitation to the Methodist Church, Edgeware Road. Amongst the arrivals from the north this morning were Flight-Lieutenant Rodney, R.A.F., and Mr W. J. Minty. The Right Rev Dr James Whyte, Catholic Bishop of Dunedin, was an arrival by this morning’s ferry steamer from the north. The Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) left for Wellington last night to attend a meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association. Mr Archer will return to-morrow. Mr A. M. Cameron, of the Dunedin Railway Goods Department, has been appointed stationmaster at Springfield, in place of Mr C. A. Undrill, who has been transferred to Auckland. Arrivals from the north this morning included Dr 11. G. Denham. Professor of Chemistry at Canterbury College, and Professor J. Malcolm, of Otago University. Mr R. F. Sullivan, of the Linwood Football Club's senior fifteen, son of Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P., left for the North Island last evening and will be absent several weeks. Mr P. R. Angus. Assistant Chief Railway Mechanical Engineer, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning on departmental business. Mr Justice Luxford, Chief Judge of Western Samoa, is indisposed as a result of an accident at and will not be able to leave for Samoa to-morrow as previously planned. The Rev M. A. Warren, secretary of the Australian Board of Missions, arrived by the Ulimaroa on Tuesday to confer with the Bishop of Melanesia regarding the extension of the mission to the mandated territory of New Guinea.

Notable success has been gained by a young Auckland doctor, Dr Donald D. M’Kenzie. the youngest son of the Rev J. D. M’Kenzie. of Gardner Road. Epsom. At the Otago Medical School Dr M’Kenzie graduated first as bachelor of medicine and Ch.B., and later as doctor of medicine. He is now in England, and cabled advice received by his parents states he has gained the degree of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, London. He is only 26, having secured the degrees of M.B. and Ch.B. before he was 21. Dr M’Kenzie was for two years a house surgeon in the Auckland Hospital before leaving to stlidy in London two years ago. For the greater part of last year he was employed at the Derbyshire Infirmary. He returned to the Dominion at the end of the year and married Miss Margaret Ilarbutt, a daughter of Mr S. J. Harbutt, of Epsom. Accompanied by his wife he returned to London, where he is gaining further experience prior to returning to New Zealand for a few years.
