“SUPER-TALKIES” START TO-NIGHT AT THEATRE ROYAL.
The heavy advance booking at The Bristol denotes the unusually keen interest being displayed in the season of “ super-talkies ” at the Theatre Royal, which commences to-night under the direction of J. C. Williamson Films. Elaborate tests by the Sound engineers of the Western Electric Company have been successfully carried out, and the results are pronounced by the experts to be equal to the best obtained in any theatre in the world. The rebuilt Theatre Royal acoustics are of the finest, and patrons can confidently look forward to a full programme of sound under ideal conditions. The big attraction is, of course, “The Bellamy Trial,” which has created little short of a sensation in the northern capitals, in which the dialogue sequences in the great courtroom scene are said to he of the most absorbing and thrilling order. Famous people of the stage will also be seen in vividly realistic offerings, both vocal and instrumental, including an entire revue in technicolour. Major Segrave’s remarkable motor race and Lee Bible’s ill-fated attempt to lower it, and the last scene taken of it by Chas. Traub, the Pathe News cameraman, who was killed at his camera by Bible’s runaway car. There will be a matinee to-morrow and thereafter there will be a daily “All Talkie” matinee. Bay sales for gallery seats (evening sessions only) are obtainable at the Theatre Royal confectionery.
