MOTOR LAW WILL BE SIMPLIFIED.

TRANSPORT COUNCIL HAS WORK IN HAND.

(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, June 13. The National Transport Advisory Council continued its sittings to-day. Its proceedings are not open to the Press, a method which will help the representatives of sectional interests to adopt a frank round-table attitude in considering the problems submitted to them by the Government. They will obtain great assistance from the chairman, Mr R. Masters, who is not directly concerned in any phase of motor transport, but has extensive business interests and six years Parliamentary experience, as well as the advantage of very close association with members of the Government. It is understood that the first task of the council is to overhaul existing motor legislation, with a view to simplified consolidation. It is intended to revise the motor licensing system, and to repeal the Motor Omnibus Act -with a view to its inclusion in a comprehensive measure to be introduced, if possible, during the coming session. The Transport Council also intends at its first meeting to deal with motor traffic regulations, having as the objective a series for universal application, enabling motorists to avoid the pitfall of infringing unexpected local by-laws.
