SCHOOL RUGBY.
ST BEDE’S V. ST ANDREW’S. This afternoon, the first of the annual Rushy football matches between the first fifteens of the various Christchurch secondary schools took place at Norlhcote, when the representatives of St Bede’s College tried their strength with the St Andrew’s College fifteen. Tlio weather was calm and fine, and the ground was in good condition. The teams were as follows: ST ANDREW’S COLLEGE. (Royal Blue). Full-back: I-I. L. Jfimieson. Three-quarters: P. C. EnsOr (captain), M. Brown and It. E. Adair. Five-eighths: J. S. Wilson and R. Grimmer. Half-back: T. A. Judfcon. Wing-forward: J. Mlvenzie. Forwards: L. A. Lilley, A. J. Baber, G. Langdale-flunt (vice-captain), N. Mason, G. Edwards, D. Dunnett, and E. B. Paterson. Emergencies: F. .T. Wilson. 2d. Croft (backs); W. D. Walker and C. Whetter (forwards). ST BEDE’S COLLEGE. (Black with red facings). Full-bapk: M. O’Connor. Three-quarters: A. Devonport, O. Scully and O. O’Sullivan. Five-eighths: V. Driscoll and G. Gaffaney (captain). Half-back: F. Doherty. Wing-forward: V. Oarmody. Forwards: M. Gonlev (vice-captain), J. Phelan, J. Blackmore, P. Egden, J. Bray, .T. Pierce and H. Kennedy. Emergencies: E. Nee, F. Hancock (backs), C. Thiele and G. Goulter (forwards). Referee: Mr E. E. Luttrell. St Bede’s kicked off, and an exchange of kicks tended in St Bede's favour, the ball going but at the Blue twenty-five. 7'hero were several forward rushes, but the sides were evenly balanced, and there was nothing decisive until Gaffaney, by a good kick, found the line well down in St Andrew’s territory. Play was mainly amongst the forwards, and hePe St Andrew’s were going rather better than their opponents, Lilly, M’Kenzle and Baker shining in the loose. Pretty work by Devonport and Gaffaney looked dangerous, but then, by some solid play in the tight, St Andrew’s brought the gome to the St Bede’s lin*e. The Blacks were penalised, and, although the kick at goal was unsuccessful, Ensor fielded the return kick, and,
after a fast dodging run, went over near the corner. Adair converted. St Andrew's 5, St Bede’s 0. St .Bede’s attacked, but St Andrew’s then camfe through with a loose rush to the St Bede's twenty-five, when Ensor secured and ran to close on St Bede's line, where he kicked over, and .Tudson fell on the hall. The kick was unsuccessful, and half-time came with the score:— St Andrew’s 8, St Bede’s 0. Early in the second spell Billy ami Erisor ’each scored for St Andrew’s, anrl as neither try was converted the score stood 14-nil In favour of St Andrew’s. Then Driscoll brought the total to 14-3 with a. good penalty kick. In the concluding 1 stages St Bede’s were pressing hard and. good work by Gonjey enabled O’Sullivan to score on two occasions.
