WOOLSTON NOTES.

Latest reports from the Christchurch Hospital state that Cockshaw, Mr C. Lilburne and Mr Swanson are all on the way to recovery. Mr J. R. Douglas is now much better, though, he is still under the doctor. Mrs A. Beaumont and Mrs Gofton are both recovering from their recent illnesses. Mr Warrep has so far improved that he has returned home from the hospital. ST JOHN’S VESTRY. The St John’s vestry held its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening. Present: The vicar, the Rev Tooley (in the chair), Messrs J. R. Douglas and Champion (wardens). Dryden, Harris, Edwards, Ilyde and Cooper. Mr Douglas reported on the financial position. Mr li. Purchas, hon secretary for the envelope system, was present on invitation from the vestry, and explained the position ip, regard to ,the envelope and arrears. A good deal of discussion took place as to the best method of wiping off the arrears, also as to ways and means of inducing other church members to take envelopes. During the course of the evening Mr Purchas was appointed a member of the vestry to fill ond of the vacancies. MAIN SEWAGE SYSTEM. The main sewerage scheme in Woolston is now nearing completion. The contractors are engaged on the last length in Princess Street, and with this finished, with the exception of the Radley district, the sewage system will be then practically complete. A NEW LEASE OF LIFE. Judging by the number of buildings in the process of erection in Woolston it seems as though a district that has lain dormant for many years has suddenly taken a new lease of life. Present operations are three new houses in Graham Street, two houses in Ferry Road, shops and houses in Princess Street, Tilford Street and Hargood Street, and a number of houses in the Radley district. It is reported that the orchard property on Ferry Road next to the fire brigade station has been sold and that a number of houses are to be built upon it. The large fence on the Ferry Road fronting this property is now being removed. Its removal will be a benefit to this portion of the Ferry Road as in the past it has kept the path and road very wet in -winter. E UGH RE AND DANCING. The Woolston School Committee held its usual euchre evening on Saturday last. The proceeds were in aid of school funds. The usual weekly dance was held in the Druids Hall on Thursday. The music was supplied by Bryson’s Band. Mr C. Snelling was M.C, ST JOHN'S SCOUTS. The St John's Scouts No. 9 Troop held their weekly parade on Wednesday evening under A.S.M.’s S. Barker and R. Beaumont. During the evening a shield that is competed for every three months by the different patrols was presented. The winners were the Bull’s Patrol under the leadership of Scout D. Christian.
