HEAVY DEMANDS FOR RAILWAY WAGGONS.
BUSY TIMES EXPECTED AT PORT THIS WEEK. Although the demands for railway trucks in Canterbury are still exceptionally heavy, the officers of the Department state that they are able to meet the position satisfactorily. “We are using every waggon that we can get hold of, but the worst of the rush is now over.” said one railway official to-day. “In addition to the large consignments of coal and timber being brought from the West Coast we are faced this week with heavy demands for waggons for shipping.”' Three overseas boats, the Ruapehu, Benholm and Wairuna, are discharging at Lytteton to-day, and the Norfolk and Port Victor are loading frozen meat and wool. The Aelybryn, with about 3600 tons of phosphates from Nauru Island, is due to arrive at Lyttelton to-morrow or Wednesday. tically all the grain for storage purposes, excepting that from stations on the Methven line, has now been dealt with by the Department.
