LEWIS SADDLE PARTY RETURN TO CITY.

Feeling somewhat the worse for the wear and tear of nearly fifty miles on horseback over rough country, the party who inspected the proposed route of a road over the Lewis Saddle returned to Christchurch to-day. Practically all were fully convinced that such a road was necessary for the full development of North Canterbury and Westland. Good weather, with only an occasional light shower, was experienced throughout the trip. The party returned over the saddle route yesterday, having spent the previous night at Reefton. Altogether a distance of about forty-six miles was done on horseback. An inch of snow which fell overnight provided snowballing sport this morning.
