RANGIORA NEWS.
A COMPLIMENTARY GATHERING. The Executive Committee of the complimentarv gathering to be tendered to the Hon 'D. Buddo in the Town Hall this evening, met on Saturday morning to finalise arrangements. Mr F. Horrell was in the chair. The treasurer’s report was a very satisfactory one, the sum in hand and subscriptions expected from Oxford and one or two other places being sufficient to provide handsome tokens of appreciation of service and of esteem to be presented to both Mr and Mrs Buddo. It was decided to reserve seats for ticket-holders until 8 p.m., seating accommodation for 700 being provided, and then to open the doors to the public if there are still seats available. The Town Clerk (Mr J. M. Fraser* received word by telephone from Biers heim yesterday that the Prime Minit ter’s party of five would leave Kaikoun ; between 1 and 2 p.m. to-day, and, be , ing joined by the Hon G. W. Forbet and Mrs Forbes at Cheviot, they would reach Rangiora before 5 pan., and would then stay the night at the Red Lion Hotel. A civic reception will be tendered to Sir Joseph Ward at the Borough Council Chambers about • 7.30 p.m. MOTOR-CAR DAMAGED. On Friday night, while Mr R. Macdonald was attending the annual meeting of the Northern Agricultural and > Pastoral Association, some mischievous 1 person started his car parked in Ivory Street, and, in the reverse gear, ran • it across High Street. One of the back 1 wheels struck the kerbing with such • force that the back axle was badly bent, the wheel buckled, and other damage done, the whole entailing a consid- . erable expenditure in repairs. KITCHEN EVENING. L At the' invitation of Miss E. Wilson [ and Miss D. Payne, about seventy . young peojJe spent an enjoyable time , at a kitchen evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Wednesday in honour of Miss t G. Chamoers, who is to be married [ next month. Dancing to music sup- • plied by Mr and Mrs D. Duske occupied chief place on the programme, while t vocal solos were contributed by Miss K. Cassidy and Miss Joyce Forward. The guest of the evening received a t' large number of useful gifts, which - were acknowledged by her brother, Mr W. C. Chambers.
