LABOUR PARTY TAKEN BY SURPRISE.
ANNOYANCE EXPRESSED AT CANDIDATURE OF MR A. E. ARMSTRONG. The nomination of Mr A. E. Armstrong, a son of Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P., as an Independent candidate for the City Council, has been the Bubject of a good deal of Comment in Labour circles, on account of the fact that Mr Armstrong is a member of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, and was an unsuccessful candidate for selection as one of 'the committee’s nominees for the Council. In the opinion of some of the members of the committee disciplinary •action should be taken against Mr Armstrong, and it is likely that the •matter will be discussed at the next meeting of the committee. Two years ago Mr A. E. Armstrong was selected as a Labour candidate for the Council, but he later withdrew from the ticket owing to his father being a candidate.
