CANTERBURY CENTRE. A2UTB mOItCPS VISIT. The Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association met last night. Mr M. E. Lyons presided. The question of the visits of Arne Borg and Cameron were discussed. “ I don’t know whether the 4 North V. South ’ feeling is coming into this,” said Mr S. Hollander, 44 but I move now that this centre should strongly urge a fixture for Christchurch, as it is one of the most important centres.’’ 44 Make it the South Island,” said Mr Lyons. Mr Hollander moved to that effect.

Mr L. Annand said that Borg would only be in New Zealand for about a week, and that Wellington and Auckland each had a fixture arranged. Other fixtures would be made if time permitted and if Borg himself was agreeable to another sea trip. The New Zealand Council was quite favourable to Borg’s appearing in Christchurch. Mr Annand’s action in intimating that Canterbury would accept an appearance of Cameron was endorsed. It was decided to endeavour to arrange a date for Cameron either on February 27 or February 28, and to arrange a carnival for the date decided upon. Mr Annand reported upon the New Zealand championships at Wellington, where, in the absence of Mr Lyons, he acted as manager of the Canterbury 44 Stokes’s performance stamps him as one of the best swimmers this country has ever produced,” said the chairman, proposing a vote of congratulation to the successful members of the Canterbury team. He also thanked Mr Annand and Mrs Brown, chaperone, for their services on the tour. Mr Annand said that, one lesson the tour had taught was that the team should stay together at the hotel specified by the centre. It had been difficult to get hold of the swimmers, as they were scattered all over Wellington. The polo team had not done well at the start. The coldness of the water had troubled them. The Canterbury team improved as the tournament went on. What was wanted was a few months’ practice before leaving for the championships.

Cameron (Wellington) lOOvds swimming champion of New Zealand, attempted to lower his own record for the distance (55 4-ssec) at the Municipal Baths, to-night, but failed by one second.
