MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Alfred James Luxon, aged forty-six, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment for drunkenness, and was prohibited for twelve months. A first offender was convicted and discharged. John Somerfield Jones was fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness, and 20s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, for a breach of his prohibition order. A charge of using obscene language was dismissed. REMANDED. Edward Hill, aged twenty-four, charged with escaping from custody at the M’Leod Settlement, Victoria, was remanded till February 7. SHOPLIFTING. Doris Edna Gibbon (Mr M’Lachlan), aged twenty, charged with stealing two petticoats valued at £4 12s, the property of the D.1.C., goods valued at 3s, the property of M’Duffs, Ltd., and goods valued at £1 6s Bd, the property of the Cash Drapery Company, was 1 convicted and placed on probation for twelve months, a condition being that she should return to Wellington and immediately report to the Probation Officer. ADJOURNED. A case against Grace Albertha Collins, charged with stealing £2 in cash from one Elsie Morrison, was adjourned till February 7. Mr M’Lachlan appeared for accused. CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) Judgment by default was given for the plaintiff in the following cases:— Adams, Ltd., v. J, Radcliffe, £2 6s 6d; the King v. Joseph H. Twomey, £57 3s.
