LADIES’ LAWN TENNIS DOUBLES ON FRIDAY.

WELLINGTON TEAM HAS BEEN CHOSEN FOR WILDING SHIELD.

The final of the ladies’ doubles championship of Canterbury will be played to-morrow at Wilding Park beginning at 3 p.m. between Miss Speirs and Mrs Pritchett (the holders), and Misses Wake and Andrew. Wilding Shield. The Wellington team to challenge Canterbury for the Wilding Shield has been chosen as follows: 1. D. G. France. 2. C. E. Malfroy. 3. L. A. France. 4. T. Rhodes-Williams. The Wellington team will not arrive in Christchurch until the morning of Friday, February 8, and wiil play the ' same day. The Canterbury team, is not likely to be picked until Thursday • night. Seay, Angas and Glanville are certainties, and the fourth man will be ' picked from Patterson, Sheppard, Greenwood, B. B. Loughnan and A. B. Loughnan. All of these players will practise daily at Wilding Park. Malfroy v. Anyas. Great interest will be taken in the meeting of Malfroy and Angas, it being a question whether Angas has < shown enough improvement to turn < the tables on the Wellington colt, who j has beaten him twice in South Island ; championship finals, and beat him in ’ the Wilding Shield match at Wellington last year.

TENNIS PLAYERS TO PRACTISE FOR WILDING SHIELD.

The players chosen to practise in view of the selection of the Canterbury team for the Anthony Wilding Shield, will commence a series of tests this afternoon from 4.30 p.m. at Wilding Park. The following doubles matches will take place:— Seay, I. A., and Angas, C. v. Glanville, D. F. and Loughnan, B. B. Greenwood, P. G., and Loughnan, A. 8., v. Patterson, T. W., and Sheppard,

The practice matches will be continned to-morrow and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. The shield contest takes place on Friday and Saturday, February 8 and 9.

MALFROY DEFEATED BY D. G. FRANCE AT DANNEVIRKE.

Per Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, January 30. The Dannevirke lawn tennis tournament was nearly, completed to-day so far as championship events were concerned. Results were:— Men’s Singles—D. G. France beat Malfroy 9-6, 4-6, 8-6.

Women’s Singles—Mrs Adams beat Miss Clark 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Boys’ Singles—N. Fitzjohn beat M. Morison 6-3, 6-1. Girls’ Singles—Miss Castle beat Miss Thompson 6-2, 6-0. Men's Championship Doubles—France and Malfroy beat Lowry and Milburn 6-2, 6-3.

Women’s Doubles—Mesdames Green and Hetley beat Mrs Milburn and Miss Clark 4-6, 6-4. 6-3. , , . Men’s Singles Handicap—A. Ritchie beat F. C. Bunny 6-0, 5-7.
