WILKINS MAKES SHORT FLIGHT.

WEATHER TOO BAD FOR LONG JOURNEY. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. - ) (Received December 19, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 18. A copj'right message from Sir Hubert Wilkins, dated Deception Island, December 18, says:—“Our seaplane, fully loaded, is lying at anchor ready to start at a moment’s notice on the hoped-for adventure. A watch is being kept from the hill at the harbour mouth, but drifting ice entering the bay ruined any chance of taking off. However, a short flight in the ’plane San Francisco, which is now fitted with wheels, in the course of which we climbed 6000 feet for 100 miles, revealed as far as the eye could see unbroken clouds. It is useless to proceed under the present conditions. Indications are for an improvement.”— Australian Press Association.
