ANGLICANS DISCUSS CHURCH DISPUTE.
ACTIONS OF BISHOP AGAIN CRITICISED
(Special to the “ Star”) AUCKLAND, December 18. Mr W. 11. Flake way, of Claudelands, a member of the W 1 aikato ( hapter, writes to the Press stating that another correspondent (Mr J. W. -Warren) has an obsession that the diocesan dissension is directly due to Claudelands’ Anglicans. The letter states: “ I wonder if the Claudelands folk are responsible for at least twelve, perhaps more, of the clergy, including the last two curates at Hamilton, leaving the diocese during the last two years—in some cases they are now holding prominent positions in other dioceses—are thev also responsible for the resignation of certain examining chaplains to the Bishop; for the temporary resignation of the Archdeacon of Waikato: for the numerous protests made by the clergy and others against the Bishop’s article on Sunday observance for this diocese when a guest of St Michael’s, Christchurch: for the meeting convened at Bishopscourt .to form a branch of the C.E.M.S. to which only certain churchmen, myself included, were invited, the dean being deliberately ignored; for the Bishop s action in overriding members of the Mothers’ Union by appointing his own officers?
“ These are just a few of the troubles church folk have experienced. Does Mr Warren really think the Claudelands members are responsible for all these events? If so, then what a tremendous influence they must . exert. Ask Taranaki church members if they are satisfied with the way church affairs are being conducted and see what they have to say on the matter. Claudelands church folk are keen, loyal and practical church members, who have the welfare of the church .at heart, and they are certainly not going to see the church work crippled without raising a protest.”
through the crowd, an alert eye here and there. Of course, you keep a firm grip on your purse, fasten your fur vcr3 r firmly, and grip your umbrella, but this is no cut-throat, slip-purse alley to-day—just a fragment of old London, with a lingering tang of the East.
