“THE GIRL FRIEND” IS BIG DRAW AT THEATRE ROYAL.
There is much to commend “ The Girl Friend,” which was produced in the Theatre Royal last evening, and will be repeated this evening. It is bright, witty, snappy, tuneful and full of fun. Its novel dance items are particularly attractive. Amongst its merits are the staging and setting, which are in' the best style. Behind these, or, rather, in froht of them, are highly talented players, who know their work and who have been trained to do it well. Miss Annie Croft, an English comedienne, now appearing in Christchurch for the first time, is very popular. Fler acting in musical comedy leaves nothing to be desired. Mr Reginald Sharland, leading man, is much above the average. Miss May Beatty has many friends in Christchurch and her appearance on the stage here once more is quite an important event in the theatrical history of this city. She has never ceased to be a favourite with New Zealand audiences. The chorus is an exceptionally good one. “ The Girl Friend ” itself is a piece that can be enjoyed, by all, for it has in it a full measure of the joy and spirit of youth.
