CAPTAIN BUCKLEY TESTS SLOTTED WINGS
“ WILL MAKE AVIATION SAFE FOR LEARNERS. ” Slotted wings, which have been described as the greatest advance in aviation since man first conquered the art of flying, were thoroughly tested for the first time in the Dominion by Captain M. Buckley’, of the New Zealand Permanent Air Force, on an AvroAvian aeroplane last week. Captain Buckley, who was recently married in Palmerston North, brought Mrs Buckley back to Christchurch in Captain K. Hall’s new Avro-Avian, the assembly of which has just been completed. On the wedding tour, he tested the slotted wings and he considers that they are wonderful, and that they will make aviation very' safe for learners. He was able to make a descent at below forty miles an hour in perfect safety. Bad weather detained Captain and Mrs Buckley at Palmerston North for two day's and they flew over Feilding, where they' landed on the polo ground at the racecourse—a ground which Captain Buckley considers is as good as any' in the Dominion. He describes it as a perfect ground for light machines, and fit for any' machine that is in the Dominion to land on. After doing some local living at Feilding. Captain and Mrs Buckley flew to Blenheim on Sunday', and arrived here on Sunday' afternoon.
