Recently Mr H. G. Ell approached the Reserves Committee of the City Council and intimated that he proposed constructing a foot track from the Sign of the Kiwi to the Sign of the Takahe, the track to be about one chain above the roadway and for a portion of its length running through Victoria Park. At the point where the track approaches the entrance of the park Mr Ell proposes to carry it down, crossing Dyers Pass Road and continuing to the Sign of the Takahe on the lower side of the road. He therefore asked for the approval of the committee to construct the path through the park. At last night’s meeting of the Council the Reserves Committee reported that the site had been inspected by members of the committee, who were of opinion that it would be serving a very useful purpose but, that instead of crossing the roadway, it should be continued on above the roadway to connect with an existing track on Mr Cracroft Wilson’s property. The chairman, Councillor C. L. Carr, had therefore granted Mr Ell permission to construct a track through the park on the abovementioned conditions. The report was adopted.
