Opossums are not unknown in the Temuka district but they are certainly not common and as they forage by night, are rarely seen. On Tuesday night a remarkably large specimen of the species paid a visit to the Temuka Manse. Returning home late, the Rev H. R. Fell found that a little room at the back of the house contained a visitor of some kind and, on opening the door to let it out, it darted into the house. Mr Fell then saw that it was a full-grown opossum, the biggest that he had ever seen. The terrified creature rushed from room to room, and it was some little time before it found its way through the front door and disappeared into the darkness.
