ACETYLENE TANK EXPLODES, BLOWING SHOP TO PIECES.
WRECKAGE STREWN OVER WIDE RADIUS. (United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 7, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 7. An acetylene tank exploded with a terrific roar in the suburb of Newtown, destroying a. two-storey shop. Pieces of the cylinder were blown through the walls of adjoining premises. A large stack of timber was blown up and pieces were throw'll hundreds of yards away. Houses within a radius of a mile were shaken. There was no one on the premises, but many, people had narrow escapes. The fire brigade quickly extinguished a fire which broke out. The premises are those of D. Reid and Sons, plumbers.—Australian Press Association.
