“THE COSSACKS” IS BIG FEATURE AT GRAND THEATRE.
” The Cossacks ” is essentially a love story, but it is so well balanced, and set in such a thrilling atmosphere, that there is nothing maudlin about it. As the title suggests, the filn. deals with C:e wild, almost barbarian innabitants of the Russian Steppes, men who have made a name for fearless fighting, and unapproachable horsemanship. They are the men who value a horse more highly than their own family, who practically live on their horses, and perform feats of horsemanship which are renowned throughout the world. John Gilbert has perhaps never made a more strong impressi-n than he does in this sensational film. Renee Adoree, as the peasant girl, is charming, and gives an excellent rendering of a part requiring a deal of dramatic treatment.
