PIGEON RACING.
CHRISTCHURCH SOCIETY. During the past few weeks the Christchurch Racing Pigeon Society flew five races from the following distances:—lnvercargill (2) a distance of 29 2 miles, Kaitoki 223 miles, and Woodville (2), a distance of 280 miles. The results were:— FIRST INVERCARGILL.
AY. ruaaies s woooy JUNIOR SECTION. The junior section of the Christchurch Racing Pigeon Society flew their first race since their formation from Kaitoke recently. Twenty-five birds representing seven owners were sent. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 9 a.m. in fine, cloudy weather, with a light northerly breeze, but they encountered a heavy souh-west gale in the latter part of the journey. The winning bird, Barcelona, the property of Mr H. J. Allard, flew the distance of 221 miles 1408 yards in Ghr 39min 30sec The following are the results: Yds per min H J. Allard’s Barcelona 977 J. Grenfell’s Flying Scotchman 903 J M. Baxter's Black Admiral . . SO6 A. Duffield’s No. 654 801 A. E. Lye’s No. 1596 799 Mr Allard won the special prize donated by Mr A. Willoughby for the club s first race, and also the special nominated bird prize. CANTERBURY CLUB^ On Saturday the Canterbury PigeonFlying Club conducted a race from Napier. Mr A. S. Curran liberated the ldrds in favourable conditions for a good fly, but later on they met the southerly storm which came over early in the afternoon, and this- prevented good returns. The winning bird was owned by Mr G. Robertson. The distance was 366 miles 583 yards air line.
