LIVELY DEBATE ON TUNNEL ROAD SCHEME EXPECTED.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COMMITTEE PREPARES LENGTHY REPORT.

A lively discussion is expected to take place at a meeting of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to be held to-night, when the report of a special committee set up recently to investigate the tunnel road scheme will be presented. It is understood that the report opposes the scheme and disputes some of the estimates of the Port and City Committee. The Special Committee of the council has had several conferences with the Port and City Committee, and its findings are the result of prolonged discussions. A number of amendments to the report will probably be moved at tonight’s meeting, and it is stated that there is a likelihood of the whole matter being referred to a general meeting of members of the chamber.
