KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS.
The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Deputy-Mayor, Councillor 11. M’lntosh, Councillors E. J. Pollard. J. D. Williams, A. E. Brown, F. Thorne, A. Linklater, D. Whyte, R. J. Dunn. An application under the by-laws for a license as a drainlayer was granted, and a license to store dangerous goods was agreed to. Mrs W. M. White wrote advising having purchased Mr J. Young's property at The Pines, and asked that the council transfer the lease of the section to her. The transfer was approved. Mr W. H. Stark w-rote with reference to the drains at a residence cwned by him in Smith Street, and stated that he was prepared to carry out work to comply with the by-laws, but protested agaifist doing anything more than this at the request of the sanitary inspector. The letter was referred to the Sanitary Committee to confer with the inspector and Mr Stark.
The engineer-secretary of the North Canterbury Power Board wrote forwarding the amended offer to the council for the bulk supply of power as follows, the term of the agreement to be for a period of five years, with right of renewal for a further term of five years, provided that any increase or decrease in the charge made by the Public Works Department to the board should be passed on to the couri* cil, and that the present method of charging by the Public Works Department be maintained. If the Public Works Department should discontinue the present method of charging, on renewal of the board’s agreement, the board reserves the right to review the charges to the council. The letter was referred to the Lighting Committee to confer with the Rangiora Borough Council.
The Ivaiapoi United Friendly Societies were granted permission to erect signs at the main bridge. advertising their annual excursion, also the use of the council chamber lobby for the purpose of selling tickets. The secretary of the Loyal Kaiapoi Lodge. M.U., 1.0.0. F., wrote applying for permission to erect a lodge-room on a section in Hilton Street. The letter was received and permission was granted. The director of the Kaiapoi Technical School wrote forwarding a summary of the work done at the school for the past year, and appealed to the council for a continuation of its' financial support. The usual grant of £lO was made. The Pines Association advised having purchased Mr R. J. Dunn’s section at The Pines, and the transfer was approved. Permission was granted The Pines Association to erect signs advertising the annual gala.
As promised, in connection with the borough jubilee celebration, a grant of £l2 10s was made towards the school picnic fund. A vote of thanks was accorded the Hon D. Buddo for his many years’ faithful service to the borough and district.
The finance report showed receipts £372 12s 2d, debit balance £1621 2s 2d. Accounts amounting to £194 3s 5d w T ere passed for payment.
