COOLIDGE URGES PASSING OF BILL FOR CRUISERS.

COMMENTS UPON YEAR S PROSPERITY. (United Press Assn.—By Electric | Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, December 3 President Coolidge, in his last annual message to Congress, advocated the passage of the Fifteen Cruiser Bill now pending in the Senate, with the elimination of the so-called time clause, which states that the vessels must be begun and finished by a certain date. The message urged the enactment of a farm relief measure for Government aid in handling and marketing surpluses due to weather and seasonal conditions, and advocated appointment of a Federal farm board for the purpose, with a temporary loan fund. The President, describing the condition of the country, said:—“ln the domestic field there is tranquility, contentment and harmonious relations between managements and wage earners, freedom from industrial strife, and the highest record of a year’s prosperity. In the foreign field there is the peace and goodwill which comes from mutual understanding and the knowledge that problems which a short time ago appeared ominous are yielding to the touch of manifest friendship.” President Coolidge added: “No Congress of the United States ever assembled on surveying the state of the Union has met with a more pleasing prospect than that which appears at the present time.”

To other lands the United States must extend “the largest measure of generosity, moderation and patience.”

He then added: “In addition to dealing justly we can well afford to walk humbly in peace and prosperity, which are not finalities. They are only methods. It is too easy under their influence for a nation to become selfish and degenerate.”—Australian Press Association.
